Congratulations on recently receiving your CDL! Now what? For a new driver, this is an exciting time. You want to get hired, get miles, and get paid. What most instructors don’t tell though is that most reputable companies require at least one year of experience. So how do you go about gaining that experience without the requirements to land a high-paying trucking job?
At Lawrence, we see this far too often. New drivers are considered a liability and can’t be trusted out on the road with valuable goods. That’s why we made it our goal to create programs for drivers of all experience to succeed. Our six-week paid driver training program will take you from a student driver to a professional. You’ll work with certified driver trainers to get the skills you need and get paid while you train. So, what all will you accomplish during our 6-week training program?
Week 1
So, you’re ready to get out on the road and see the country? First, we must cover the basics. These basic skills you will carry with you for the rest of your career. From passing a road test, learning basic maneuvers both empty and loaded, and discovering your career path at Lawrence.
Weeks 2-3
Now you’re out of the classroom and on the open highway. During weeks two through three, you will be behind the wheel for around four hours a day. You’ll learn valuable skills such as assisting/ leading the operation of a Qualcomm, trip planning, cargo securement, working with our experienced dispatch team, and more.
Weeks 4-5
Now it’s time to put your training to the test. Everything that you learned from weeks two and three, you are now in charge of. From leading the planning and time management of your trips, learning all the paperwork, working with dispatch, and inspecting all your equipment for safe travels. Don’t forget the most essential part of it all, the driving! Ranging from 30 – 50 hours a week, you will drive all routes both loaded and empty.
Week 6
Congratulations, you’ve made it to the final test. All the hard work finally pays off. During your last week, you will be tested on all the skills that you have learned during the past five weeks. This allows you to feel confident in your skills and prove that you’re ready to handle all aspects of trucking by yourself.
At Lawrence, we’re committed to building our team with the best drivers. That’s why we invest in new drivers to provide the opportunity for them to grow their skills and career.
